If you want to excel in your running during the Spring and Summer, you need to condition your body and prepare it to race intensely during the winter months.
This is easier said than done. Especially depending on the part of the world that you are based in and the type of climate conditions that you are exposed to.
The most tricky conditions will be if your body is exposed to snow, ice, cold breezes, and lack of lighting due to the wintery conditions. This will impact your motivation and willingness to run.
However, with the right running gear, you can prepare yourself to take on the winter elements, despite any unappealing winter conditions.
Below is a list of the winter running gear that you should use to keep your body temperature warm and that will make it comfortable enough for you to run.
Running thermal tights
You want the blood circulation to move freely throughout your body. Having your legs maintain a warm body temperature will help you achieve that. When running, your legs will cool down quickly if they are exposed. So wearing leggings or jogging pants will help to keep the warmth in your legs.
At the same time, you don’t want the pants or leggings that you wear to interfere with your running style. So opting for skin-tight thermal tights are the ideal solution.
Make sure that you purchase the ones with wool on the inside to keep your body temperature warm. They cost more, but they will make you feel like you are running in the spring once you raise your body’s temperature.

Waterproof jacket
When you are running in the winter, you’re likely to be exposed to damp or wet conditions. Be it rain, snow, dew, or moisture in the air. You want to protect your warmth and health by wearing waterproof or water resistant jackets during your run.

Thermal Gloves
You need to get thermal gloves that are waterproof. You will be exercising for at least 30 minutes in the cold weather and your hands will always be exposed to the cold.
You don’t want your hands to feel numb. If you invest in woollen gloves, the cold will seep through the gloves as soon as they get wet.
So you want gloves that are waterproof (or at least water-resistant).
Gloves can be as little as $12.

Running shoes
Nike Pegasus

These are neutral shoes and they are highly endorsed by 2 time Olympic gold medallist Mo Farah.
Great for runners across all disciplines, whether the athlete is doing sprints, middle, or long-distance events.
These shoes are really well-cushioned at the front and the back, which makes it comfortable for running.
Runners like these shoes because they are light and the comfort feels like pillows on your feet.
One thing to keep in mind is don’t let the back of the shoe touch your Achilles, as it can lead to irritation and injury. Worst-case scenario, you will need to cut/trim the back of the shoe so it doesn’t touch your Achilles.
